The Indonesian Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, assessed that freshwater fish have great export opportunities, especially for freshwater fish such as Semah fish, Dewa fish, and Gariang fish. Limapuluh Kota, West Sumatra, Thursday emphasized that this freshwater fish can be a competitor to fish from Norway and America, which are famous for their salmon.
Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said, based on data released by the Directorate General of Competitiveness of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, the value of exports in the marine and fisheries sector is very large. For this reason, the Minister hopes that the Regent of Limapuluh Kota, Safaruddin, will spend five to 10 percent of the budget for the development of freshwater fish farming in the area.
